(UPDATED) Father kills his 2 kids in North Cotabato

CARMEN, North Cotabato – A mentally disturbed farmer, very unfortunately, killed his two children and seriously injured wife in a bizarre incident here on Sunday, police said.
Another son, a 7-year-old, was slightly injured in a peculiar incident that transpired in Sitio Tabulon, Barangay Gen. Luna here at 11 a.m., according to Chief Inspector Julius Malcontento, Carmen town police chief.

Malcontento told late Sunday night.

Senior Inspector Basilio Parcon Jr, deputy police chief, said an Arabic teacher, Abdul Nasser Palot Ampatuan, 57 and Hassan Afdal Ampatuan, 22, student, both residents of Matalam Street, Barangay Poblacion, Kabacan, North Cotabato, voluntarily surrendered to police the suspect, Abdul Guibar Afdal Ampatuan, 32, resident of Barangay Gen. Luna.

Investigation showed that Guibar Afdal was involved in a hacking incident at around 11:00 a.m. Sunday. He allegedly hacked to death his two children, identified as Ashrea, 6 and 1-year-old Zulkeple, and seriously injured his wife, Fatima Ampatuan, 30.

Right after the incident, relatives rushed Fatima to a hospital in Carmen and 7-year-old child, also hurt. The mother was transferred to North Cotabato Provincial Hospital and later to a Kidapawan City hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

The 7-year-old kid survived with minor injuries.

Malcontento said Abdul Guiabar tried to end his life after the crime by taking herbicides. Relatives rushed him to Carmen Municipal Hospital where attending physicians recommended he be moved to the provincial hospital for further treatment of herbicide poisoning.

But his immediate family, instead, brought him to Carmen PNP office for lack of money for his treatment.

Malcontento said the mother was earlier declared to have died by her family and relatives "for security reason," thinking the suspect was still at large.

He said the family later corrected the information it provided to the police when they learned the father was already in police custody.

The fatalities were buried Sunday afternoon in accordance to Muslim tradition in Barangay Limbalod, Pagalungan, Maguindanao.

Charges for parricide are being prepared against the suspect, police said.
